San Juan High School Woods 1, Woodworking Careers and Construction Technology Course Prospectus Woods 1 Wood 1 is the first year course of a three year sequence of classes. This class is designed to provide students an exploratory study of the woodworking and construction industry. An emphasis is placed on working safely with hand tools, light power tools, and woodworking tools. Students are expected to build required projects. Topics to be covered will include an overview of the woodworking and construction industry, work habits, teamwork, safety, and material and tool identification. Woods 1 is designed to prepare students for second and third year programs. Woodworking Careers ROP This class is designed for but not limited to second year students who have successfully completed Woods 1 and prepares them for ROP Construction Technology. Upon successful completion students will learn design, layout and installation of office and residential cabinets; blueprint reading; architectural design; wood technology; construction techniques; accurate measuring; and basic hand and power tool use. This course will provide students with information regarding skills necessary for entry level employment. Opportunities for skills acquisition for an entry- level employee are provided. Construction Technology ROP This course is designed for but not limited to third year students who have successfully completed Woods 1 and Woodworking Careers. Students will learn carpentry technology, use of measuring instruments, basic hand and power tools, blueprint reading, preparing the land for concrete work, wood framing, basic plumbing and electrical installations, roofing, exterior and interior finishing (drywall hanging and taping), and safety and first aid procedures.
