7th/8th grade Math
Benchmark Results: The results are in!! Huge amounts of growth. Period 1: 47% Proficiency, Period 2: 60% Proficiency, Period 3: 86% Proficiency, Algebra (Period 0 and Period 4) 82% Proficiency
*Percentage as a class *Students making anywhere from a 10% to a 40% growth!! I am extremely proud of all the Math classes thus far. After taking a look at the results of the second District Benchmark, I found myself stuck in a teaching moment. Where you are so proud and happy for all those students that worked hard and persevered through struggling chapters. I think all the students could tell how happy I was for them. There is no magic in the way I teach Math. I know I expect a lot of students and know how hard they have worked. To get this type of growth it takes students buying in and working HARD. I do want to specifically mention my 1st and 2nd period classes. These students have worked really hard to catch up and become proficient. These students are not just learning grade level curriculum, but also prior concepts. Whether it has been at lunch or in my focus groups they have put work in. These students are realizing their true potential. It was a treat to see the students’ expression as I gave them the results. Congratulations on your scores!! Now, there is still a lot of work to be done. There are many students who made a huge growth and are on the border between Basic and Proficient. Keep up the hard work and you will get there. For those who scored a Proficient it is not the time to relax. It takes just as much work to keep a Proficient score. We still have 1½ trimesters left. There are still 2 more District Benchmarks and the STAR test.
