Hidey ho, folks! Sorry for the week off - I was at UC Berkeley with Model UN all last weekend and so I had no time to get the website updated. Rest assured that all is back up and normal as of now (including last week's AND this week's practice quiz for US History... up a bit early!) The good news is that Casa's Model UN - specifically the team of Nicole Maddux & Summer Burge kicked butt and got outstanding delegate awards for their work in the Social/Cultural/Humanitarian Committee! Way to go ladies! To add icing to cake, they also organized a quick canned food drive that contributed nearly 400 cans of food to Berkeley's efforts to raise food for the WFP and Haiti relief! I'll have some pictures up & posted as soon as my students send 'em to me!
US History: tune in all this week for radio broadcasts right from the 1920's featuring details about the stock market's progress in our simulation/game - Panic! Helpful tips may be included!!!
As always, questions and cocerns can always be directed to me via email: jhasdovic@sanjuan.edu!

There is some talk around the School Board and at Casa (as well as SJUSD's other secondary schools) about a potential change in our school year calendar - as early as next year! The thought is this... We would like to end the first semester right at the beginning of Winter Break, so classes would change the day everyone returns. This would require us to move the schedule back roughly two weeks (we'd start school on Weds, August 11, 2010) - but we would also end school the week before Memorial Day in May. Our February break would most likely dissolve into the original 2 3-day weekends we used to have. What teachers are talking/debating about is whether this move would be GOOD for student learning. What's your opinion? Drop me an email and share!!!
Accessing US History Practice Quizzes:
Practice Quizzes: Each week by Wednesday evening (around 6ish) I will have a short review quiz uploaded for both International and World History. These quizzes aren't required and don't earn you any points - they are merely study aids. Keep in mind that you may not necessarily have a test every week on all of this material. In order to access them you need to do two things:
Type your first and last name as indicated on your school ID card. For example, if your full name is "John Jacob Jingleheimer-Schmidt" you would enter "John" for the first name field and "Jingleheimer-Schmidt" for the last name. Even if you don't use either hyphenated last name - you need to enter them both!
The password for all US History practice tests will be "US". There are no weekly practice quizzes for Euro Civ since we test only 4 times during the semester. If feasible, I will create special practice quizzes for that class as we draw closer to our exams.
After answering questions you will be shown the correct answer with a brief narration as to why that answer was correct - or more correct - than others.
These practice tests will be up all semester long and therefore will make great study aids for the midterm & final!
