Middle School Band Clinic - 2010 date TBA
Purpose The Middle School Band Clinic (MSBC) is designed to provide a service to students enrolled in middle school band programs. The clinic provides group instruction and individual tutoring that focuses each student on outstanding musicianship and excellence as a skilled performer on his or her instrument. All middle school band students, regardless of age or ability level, are encourage to attend the MSBC. All participants will benefit from the clinic and will demonstrate immediate improvement as a young musician. Goal The primary goal of the MSBC is to provide practical skills, techniques, and music education that will assist and encourage young band students to become more confident and proficient on their instrument. Participants will take part in several group and individual instructional sessions. Focus Points · Proper breathing, posture, hand positions, embouchure, and tone production for each instrument. · Understanding and practical use of all fingerings for the chromatic scale. · Understanding and practical use of all fingerings for the F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, A and E major scales. · Understanding and use of counting rhythms using the “traditional system of counting". Practical methods used in sight reading, including recognizing key signature, meter, tempo, articulations, and dynamics. · Playing and listening skills used in large ensemble playing, including blend, balance, intonation, precision, phrasing, and overall musicianship.
Additional Information
· All Clinic participants must provide their own instruments. · Participants will not receive confirmation but are to arrive at El Camino High School at 8:00AM. · Percussion players must provide their own sticks and mallets. · Percussion instruments will be provided. · A general session with all students will begin promptly at 8:30AM in the El Camino band room. · The MSBC will provide sight reading music, scale sheets, fingering charts and music stands. · All instructional sessions will be administered by music students of the El Camino band. · Breakfast and lunch will be provided as part of the registration fee. · Parents are encouraged to attend a public performance in the cafeteria at 2:30pm where students will demonstrate what they have learned throughout the day.
