Learning new music

"I've talked to so many people in Cornell's band who did band in high school but didn't have fun.  Their bands were excellent musically, but they didn't enjoy rehearsing, they didn't really like their directors, they never went on trips, and the band kids weren't really friends with each other because the level of competition between players was so high. I wanted to take time to thank you again for such a wonderful high school band experience. I learned to play really well, but I also had a fabulous time doing it. Thank you for realizing that the music is important but what happens outside of the music is even more important. Because I had fun I remember more from band than anyone else I've met." --Elise Newman, Class of 2007

El Camino is home to at least four bands which perform throughout the year both on and off campus:

  • Jazz Band
  • Concert Band
  • Symphonic Band (listen to them perform by clicking the link below)
  • Pep Band

Additionally, El Camino students usually start their own small combos and ensembles of 2 to 8 players for the purpose of rehearsing and performing music that is challenging and provides the opportunity for individuals to express their talents. Examples include jazz combos, brass choirs, woodwind quintets, and percussion ensembles. The El Camino Band library has a variety of music to offer.

For information on each of our instrumental groups, please see the links to the left.

"It was really a pleasure to hear the band playing out in front of the school and to see the people coming down the driveway with smiles on their faces and nodding their heads to the music. I know I really enjoyed hearing the band--it put a bounce into my step for a Friday. It was a really nice change that perked me up and I hope it did the same for others plus it showed off our awesome music program." --Charlene Mancebo, El Camino Registrar
