Beginning Guitar
Class Objectives: -
Learn to play the acoustic guitar. -
Learn to read music – both melody lines and chords. -
Develop an appreciation for a variety of musical styles. -
Develop and improve guitar technique. -
Acquire a basic understanding of music theory. -
To develop a critical listening ear. Class Assignments/Homework: -
Notes will be given daily in the areas of scales, note recognition, rhythms, chords, etc. -
These notes must be present and organized in your final notebook -
Unless the student has a second guitar at home, he/she is expected to bring the guitar home for regular practice -
Students are expected to practice a minimum of 2 hours each week outside of class. Testing/Grades: -
Playing tests will be given weekly based on individual progress. -
Students must successfully pass each weekly test to be able to move to the next level. -
Tests can be played again in order to pass. -
Note book checks. Notes must be present and organized in your class notebook. -
Grades will be based on the following: -
In-class participation and daily effort. -
Weekly playing tests. -
Projects. -
Homework. -
Class notebook. Expectations: - Be present! Both physically and mentally.
- Be respectful to fellow students.
- Follow Mr. Glaser’s classroom rules.
- Respect the building, instruments, equipment.
- Inappropriate language and behavior will NOT be tolerated.
- Listen and follow instructions.
- Students are expected to practice 2 hours each week outside of class.
- Enjoy the class.
