Mr. Glaser's Classroom Policies 'Listen louder than you play.'
Although band is an elective, there are still certain rules and policies that must be adhered to on a daily basis. The rules have a direct impact on grades. 1. Take Care Of Yourself
2. Take Care Of Each Other!
3. Take Care Of This Place!
Grades are based on the following: 15% Adherence to all classroom rules. 50% Adherence to rehearsal and performances policies. 15% Written and playing tests. 20% Participation and effort. All band rehearsals start 2 minutes after the bell rings. At that time students will be in their seats with instruments and music out. Continuous tardies will result in detention, followed by Saturday school, followed by suspension. Grades will be reflected accordingly.
All band performances are mandatory and will count towards 50% of earned grades. Due to the nature of this elective class, performances will take place outside of regular school hours such as evenings or weekends. An absence from a required performance will result in a lowered grade. If a student enrolled in band is not able to commit to required performances, selection of another elective is advised.
A – Excellent Work: Student demonstrates outstanding progress in the areas of creating, performing and applying knowledge of music. Adheres to all classroom rules without exception; maintains perfect attendance in class and at performances; works well with others; shows outstanding classroom participation and effort. B – Above Average Work: Student demonstrates average progress in the areas of creating, performing and applying knowledge of music. Adheres to all classroom rules with little exception; maintains perfect attendance in class and at performances; works well with others; shows evidence of classroom participation and effort. C – Poor Work: Student demonstrates little progress in the areas of creating, performing and applying knowledge of music. Does not adhere to classroom rules; misses one required performance; excessive absences and/or tardies; does not work well with others; shows little evidence of classroom participation and effort. D/F – Unsatisfactory: Student demonstrates very little or no progress in the areas of creating, performing and applying knowledge of music. Does not adhere to classroom rules; misses two or more required performance; excessive absences and/or tardies; does not work well with others; shows no evidence of classroom participation and effort.
Extra Credit: If a performance is missed due to an emergency or medical reason, or a student wishes to improve his/her grade a pre-approved make-up assignment may be submitted. See Mr. Glaser for details.
Parents are expected to take students home immediately after a performance.
