Mira Loma's music program allows students to participate in music while fulfilling requirements for the various academic programs offered at Mira Loma.  I encourage all students to participate in as much music as possible.

I believe music is an important part of a well-balanced education.  The study of music develops discipline, goal setting and systematically working to achieve goals, creative expression, ability to multi-task, appreciation for beauty in art and the world, and the ability to work well in groups.

The benefits of music study have been well documented.  Studies show music students score substantially better on the SAT than students that have not taken music.  This and many other studies are available at menc.org (Why Music 2007?).

Volunteers needed on Monday nights
Bingo earns a lot of money only if parents support it!

Dear Mira Loma Parents,

We desperately need Bingo volunteers on Monday nights.  Bingo is the single largest fundraiser for Mira Loma.  It helps fund Grad Nights, Sports, Band, the various Parent Organizations, Scholarships, and various other extra-curricular activities.  When we have an active volunteer force working Bingo, we earn $80,000 or more a year from Bingo alone

You may volunteer for one night or multiple nights - any and all help is welcome.  The only requirements are friendliness and an ability to count money and make change.

The Bingo Hall is located at 2929 Fulton Avenue, near the corner of Marconi (behind the Arcade Library and Taco Bell).  Mira Loma operates Bingo every Monday night, holidays included, except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

If you work as a floor volunteer, which means you sell paper or pull tabs on the floor during the evening, you will need to be able to work from 6:00 until approximately 9:45, and be able to walk for most of that time.  Additionally, there is a separate smoking room, which floor volunteers have to cover.

If you want to work in the office, which means you sell paper through a window before Bingo starts and help with counting paper and pull tabs after you are done selling, you must commit to working at least 10 Mondays over the course of one calendar year.  You may work once a month for 10 months, or you may work every other week, or however you can work it around your schedule.  To work in the office, you will need to be able to work from 5:00 until approximately 8:45.  No walking is required, and you will not have to enter the smoking room.

When you are at Bingo, you are provided with a free meal ticket for use at the grill in the Bingo Hall (surprisingly delicious Philly Cheesesteaks, French Fries, and more - even salads and soup).

If you are able to help, or would like more information, please contact Shelley Stankeivicz by phone at 916-524-1927, or email at  shelleys2011@gmail.com.
