8th Grade Science
Welcome to Mrs. Hui's web page.
Your student will receive a grade report this Monday. If they show this report to you and you sign it and they return it on Tuesday or Wednesday, they will receive 5 extra credit points.
Got calculator? I have purchased approximately 12 calculators for student use. Unfortunately, students like to abuse them and they are often vandalized. If you are able to, please purchase your child a simple calculator. It doesn't need to do more than addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. We will need them almost every day for our physics unit. The Calculator situation is getting worse as students further abuse those calculators I have. If your student has a calculator, please make sure they bring it to school every day.
Weekly work for the week of 3/15 - 3/19
We are starting out Empire and a Penny project this week. It is a very big project. I will be helping the students set up and work the calculations for their project for the next two weeks. They have two weeks after March 26th to do the individual/poster part. The Poster is not due until April 9th. I will be collecting and giving them grades for progress made on the project over the next two weeks. Please ask your student to let you see the handout explaining this all.
Monday - Start Empire and a Penny project. Calculate distance and velocity.
Tuesday -Mythbusters - dropping a penny off the Empire State Building. Do graphs Time vs Distance and Time vs Velocity.
Wednesday -Calculate Momentum, Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy. Start to fill out the master data table. Work that has been completed so far needs to be turned in by the end of the period for a progress review. Thursday - Hot air balloons. Yes, we are finally going to fly the hot air balloons. Friday - Quiz. Graph Height vs Potential Energy and Velocity vs Kinetic Energy.
