Mythology

Encyclopedia Mythica Encyclopedia Mythica This is an encyclopedia on mythology, folklore, legends, and more. It contains over 6000 definitions of gods and goddesses, supernatural beings and legendary creatures and monsters from all over the world.

Mythology For thousands of years people have associated objects in the sky, the Earth, and aspects of their physical world with the gods and goddesses of their cultures. Through these pages, find out about the gods and goddesses of different cultures around the world, and the works of art people have created to give them expression.

CentaurClassical Mythology Many ancient people tried to understand why certain things occur. They wondered about many scientific and natural phenomenon like the changing of the seasons. Two of the most common types of mythology and the people that studied it were Greek and Roman. These two groups and their myths make up Classical Mythology.

The Myth Man! Greek Mythology and the gods of Olympus Your search is over! Whether you're looking for specific information on Greek Mythology for a school project, or simply enjoy a well-told and humorous myth, the gods have guided you to the right place.

Greek Mythology - From the Iliad to the Fall of the Last Tyrant Greek Mythology Where do the Greek myths Stop? At what point in time can we assume that the essence of Greek mythology was lost? For us to try to imagine the Olympians of The Iliad we must abandon the dramatic stories of the Classical Greeks and the flights of fancy of the Romans. Even though the Classical Greek and Roman versions of the Ancient Greek myths outnumber the authentic texts I will try to, eventually, only list the oldest stories on these pages.

[Greek Myth] Greek vs. Roman Mythology In the modern mind (at least in the modern American mind) Greek and Roman culture and mythology are classed together. An indication of this is that the academic study of the Ancient Greeks and Romans are general put into the same Classics department. The two were actually quite different. While a through comparison would be at least book length some of these differences, particularly as they relate to mythology should be mentioned.

Norse Myths The Norse people lived from about A.D. 200 to 500 in northern Europe and Scandinavia. After A.D. 700, the Norse migrated in search of new lands, settling in parts of the British Isles, Iceland, Greenland and East into Russia. From this period on, the Norse are known as Vikings.
