Hello Ladybugs! It's hard to believe that we are almost half way through the school year and also quickly approaching the 100th day of school! February will be a busy month--we will finish our study of landforms (mountains, valleys, deserts, oceans, rivers, lakes) and begin our study of wood and paper. We'll also learn about two very important US presidents, Washington and Lincoln. We'll also study a little about the Chinese culture as we approach Chinese New Year and we'll celebrate friendship (and candy!) for Valentine's Day. Mittens will be another topic of interest as we study the Jan Brett book, The Mitten. Thursday, February 4th is the 100th day of school, and it will be a very busy day. Any volunteers that can come in on that day would be much appreciated. We will have a special snack (that the Ladybugs will make) and a meeting with our buddy class! Our buddies will help us recount our collections and interview us. Friday, February 13th we will have some fun stations about friends. We have been learning about community workers and among them are postal workers. So, our playhouse has been converted to a Post Office and we have been "mailing" letters to our kindergarten friends. We will also make our own "mailbag" into which our friends can deliver their valentines, or friendly notes if they so choose. One of the stations will be to open the mailbags and read our mail! As you become more experienced kindergarteners, more will expected of you both at school and, most likely, at home. Please remember that your teachers and your parents would not ask more of you than what we think you can do. We are always proud of your best efforts! Keep up the good work, Ladybugs! Go Ladybugs! ~Mrs. Lavery
