"If you cannot teach me to fly, teach me to sing"

                                                                                                      -James Barrie

El Camino Fundamental High School has an award-winning choral music program that performs in many community venues throughout the school year.  The students enrolled in this program enjoy a rich education in music and the performing arts.  They are considered ambassadors of goodwill that bring community and school together.

The students participate in choral festivals, music tours, as well as entertaining the people of our community.   Their vocal education is based on the
California and national standards for Visual and Performing Arts Standards.

Pam Mitchell, the choir director, has a strong background in music education and choral directing.  She has directed choirs of all ages, 1st grade choirs through adult community choir, and has taught classroom music, choir and band in the San Juan School District for the last 15 years .  As a professional singer, she participates in local singing groups and performs regularly with the Sacramento Opera Chorus.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching.

San Juan USD Visual and Performing Arts Mission Statement

"The core intention of Arts education in San Juan is to teach students the essential elements of the visual and performing arts through standards-based classroom instruction, guided practice, and performance. Students learn by example and are encouraged and inspired to develop their imaginations and conceptual thought processes, and to continue learning through communication, discovery, and invention. The Arts also teach concentration, discipline, attention to detail and the pursuit of excellence. The desired outcome is a knowledgeable artist who understands and can communicate their craft, with a skill set that includes creative and divergent thinking, design, productive collaboration and teamwork, agility foradaptation and change, and a zeal for learning. In short, a dynamic and creative 21st century contributor with an in-demand skill set for meaningful contribution to the future."
