Generation YES Class Information

Welcome!
Gen Yes is a comprehensive program designed to improve student learning through the infusion of technology. What makes Gen Yes different from other strategies that have the same goal is its use of students as assistants and supporters of teachers as they learn to use technology in the classroom. Instead of educators being solely responsible for learning to use technology to improve learning, Gen YES brings students into the teaching and learning process.  No longer do teachers have to learn and relearn technology skills on their own.  The Gen Yes class matches students who are eager to apply their newly acquired technical skills with teachers who have the content, pedagogical, and child-development knowledge. Together, these educators will create a variety of technologically-infused lessons aligned to district and state standards in nearly all subject areas and at all levels of K-12 education.

Students involved in this program learn how to navigate the Internet and use applications, as well as how to evaluate and make informed selections among the technologies available to complete a task or project.  Once students have mastered basic technology skills, they learn to apply those skills to a particular need that their partner-teacher wishes to address.

In many ways, Gen Yes students open teachers’ eyes to new ideas. They work with the partner-teacher to describe the state curriculum standards that apply to the project, write an initial project proposal, and respond to feedback using email from an online team of expert consultants provided by the Generation Yes team located in Washington.

What are the benefits to students taking this course?
•    Learn valuable technology skills including: Internet research,  presentation skills, video, web page creation, multimedia design, and more
