Casa Roble High School Woodshop
Home of Casa Roble ConstructionDo you have what it takes?
Wood I: Students entering Wood I can expect to be challenged! You will go from the most basic of woodworking processes to the very advanced. The projects you will make are designed to take a beginner from simple trace and cut projects to projects where you draw the plans, you glue the boards, you make the correct cuts and then you assemble. You will use every tool in the shop! From a simple Scroll Saw to the brand new Table Saw. You will learn about different finishes, numerous wood joints, pneumatic fasteners, impact guns, and powerful cordless tools. More importantly, you will learn what employers are looking for. Yes, someday your parents do want you to move out and you will need to know what a good job looks like and what an employer is looking for. Even if you plan on attending college, the ultimate goal is still to get a job. Think of this class as an 18 week job interview. You want to be in Wood II? You'll need to interview well!
Wood II Spring Term: This is a challenging class and because of this not everyone makes it in. You must demonstrate your willingness to learn and show your drive and initiative in Wood I to be considered. First timers all make a beautiful Adirondack Chair and choice of a desk or dresser. Since all the basics were covered in Wood I, we dive right into the most complex aspects of woodworking.
Wood II Fall Term Sheds: This class is for the best of the best. Each student is hand picked for this class. Students work in teams of two or three and learn the basics of construction. You and your team will work together to build a custom shed that will be sold to paying customers. We only build the best quality and these sheds are in high demand. You will learn everything from framing walls, installing siding, window and door installation, cutting and installing rafters, and roof installation. The work is hard and the hours can be long. As such, only the students who have shown a deep desire to learn more and have set themselves to a higher standard will move on.
Wood II Fall Term Guitars: We are going to try something new starting in the fall of 2009! We are going to build electric guitars as a class project! I am new to this (building musical instruments) although I have built several in the past. I have never built them as a class before! I think it will be a lot of fun and I fully expect to learn more than all my students. Again, the students for this class are hand picked from the best of the Wood I students, so really impress me when you take Wood I. STUDENTS: Many of my handouts are on this site. If you miss a day or have misplaced one of your assignments, find it on this site, print it, and either keep it in your notebook for grading or turn it in on the due date. Information about your teacher: Mr. Leever was born and raised in Fair Oaks, CA. I attended Del Campo High School (1985) and took woodshop there for the first time with Mr. Deihl. After High School I attended Sierra College and received an AA degree in Mill Cabinetmaking but thought college was kind of fun. I transferred from Sierra to Chico State (GO WILDCATS!) and received a BA in Industrial technology in 1990. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do at that point so I worked in the construction/cabinet/electrical trades. At some point the housing market dried up and I decided to use my degree, so I entered Sac States' Credential Program. I loved teaching and unlike constructions up's and down's, there were always going to be kids around. I thoroughly enjoy my job, but decided that some day I might want to be an administrator so I attended the University of LaVerne and received a Masters Degree in educational management. Now I teach during the school year and work as a High School administrator in the summer months. For some odd reason (there's a lot of suffering involved) I love bicycle riding and racing. The TV in the house is mine all day during the month of July (Tour de France). I am a CAT 4 racer with Rio Strada Racing and while I do train a lot, I'm not all that good. Still, I keep trying, hoping that someday I'll ride off the front of the pack and solo to a win. Keep dreaming! I have way too many bikes, and my wife regularly reminds me I can only ride one at a time. My daughters Marissa and Megan, live in fear that someday someone they know will see me in spandex. I figure it's my job to embarrass them. NEED A SHED? CLICK ON THE TAB AT THE RIGHT FOR PRICING AND FEATURES OF THE STUDENT BUILT RAM SHEDS.
