Mr. Sherriff's Home Page
I've been teaching science for 18 years, with the last 8 years at Winston Churchill Middle School as part of the International Baccalaureate program. My career has consisted of teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade science, helping to provide professional development for the California Science Project and K-12 Alliance/West Ed, providing district leadership in science through committees, and being science department chair for Churchill for the last 6 years. This year I pass the reins to a colleague to take on the job of department chair as I've taken on new tasks of being on the State Science Framework committee and as a reviewer for new state curriculum under the Education and the Environment Initiative. I will continue to be part of the coaching team for our after school Science Olympiad team. I was a reviewer for our current 6-8 science textbooks and for the last 6 years I've been a science judge for the state wide "Environmentality" projects given to 5th grade classrooms by Disney and the State Department of Education My wife is the regional director for a nonprofit science group, which is part of the West Ed. organization. I have two sons (ages 12 and 14) and three adult step children, one now in college. My family enjoys camping, gardening and karate. In my spare time, I am also involved in boy scouts. Parents please sign up on my web site for semi-regular emails by clicking on the small envelope in the upper right hand corner of this page in the black trim. The password needed to sign up is available to your child and is sent with the beginning of the year notes sent home.
