*Our Reading Theme for the year is - "Citrus Heights - Where Reading is King." Each Wednesday will be Royal Wednesday and students will be able to wear tshirts with an image of a king/queens/princess .
*Students must read 3 books / 300 pages of pleasure reading at home EACH MONTH - STUDENTS NEED TO READ 45 MIN EACH NIGHT
*Each month the top 3 readers will select a free book from the Scholastic Book order. TOP WINNERS FOR OCTOBER WERE KATIE, ZACK & BLAKE
*Students will choose one of their 3 books for a book report/project.

Morning Math - We are working through CHAPTER 6 -properties of Addition & Multiplication then moving on to UNIT - Operations with Decimals
Regular Math - Students are starting CHAPTER 9 - subtraction of mixed numbers
*ALL MATH STUDENTS WILL BE TAKING DAILY TIMED MATH FACTS QUIZES. AS THEY MASTER EACH OPERATION (+ - X, DIVIDE) THEY EARN A "KEY TO THE KINGDOM" AND A PENCIL FOR THAT OPERATION. WHEN THEY RECEIVE ALL 4 KEYS - THEY BECOME A "MATH WIZ"
**IF YOU LOOK ON THE MATH PAGE UNDER "MY RESOURCES" I WILL BE ADDING PICTURES OF THE CHARTS WE USE IN CLASS. STUDENTS ALSO HAVE COPIES OF THESE IN THEIR BLUE NOTEBOOK. BOTH ARE GREAT RESOURCES IF THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR HOMEWORK.
Unit: OUR WATER PLANET -
This unit is divided into 3 sections. Water Vapor, Weather, The Solar System Each has vocabulary, Labs, and a Test. The Solar System section will also have a project (planet model and facts) which will be assigned to groups of 2-3 students. We are beginning the final section on the Solar System.. Students will be assigned their celestial body and need to start researching.
**Dave Bender from Channel 13 is coming to talk to the classes about "weather" on Friday December 6th.
*Unit - EXPOSITORY TEXT
We have finished with our essay on the Environments of the Native Americans. Next we will be using these skills to RESEARCH a Native American Region and put together a book on our findings.
AVID / Social Studies:
We are starting Chapter 3 - Native American Land Regions. Students will be divided into groups that will be responsible for researching their Land Region and putting together a book on their findings. One student from each group will be responsible for making an artifact that represents the region.
Students should be practicing their 50 Nifty United States song (copy is in their binder under Social Studies - on pink paper) You can hear the song on line. (Beware it will get stuck in your brain very quickly...)
