Math Worksheets (practice)
A note on 5th grade math -
5th grade math is very difficult for most students. In fact, many parents have a difficult time remembering how to do the problems we go over this year.
Take a breath - don't freak out. . .It is going to be okay!
HOW TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS:
Please encourage your child to maintain a daily practice time with math at home.
The following is a suggested daily routine that should help:
5 Minutes daily- It is vital that these are memorized cold. Make flash cards, use the web, print up and make copies of the matrix sheet, etc. Check out the widget at the bottom of this page.
Daily Lesson from Class
20 Minutes daily- Problems not finished in class should be completed at home. If your child is fortunate enough to have completed this before getting home - review the concepts and come up with some extension activities. The web is a great tool for this. Just type in "Place Value 5th Grade" and you will get over half a million results. This is true for all the concepts we are working on.
(as needed) - Make a habit of checking your child's math notebook frequently. There is a strong emphasis on copying work from the lesson. If your child is not taking notes, they are missing more than half of the lesson. Notebooks are also great tools that the kids can use during study/review sessions.
If your child needs additional help, look into getting a buddy system set up. Get a few kids from class together and have them work as a team. This can be very beneficial - even if it is for just once a week.
