Do you want to have tons of fun, make lots of new friends and learn the tips and techniques that actors use onstage? If so, then our Elly-nominated and award-winning drama program is for you!
BEGINNING DRAMA (Grades 9-12) is a fun, creative class where you will learn to play theater games (loads of fun and a great way to meet people), do improvisation exercises (like "Whose Line Is It Anyway?”), get over stagefright, and learn how to create characters onstage. Plus you can audition for the fall play and spring musical!
ADVANCED DRAMA (Grades 10-12) continues with lots of opportunities to act, direct, or work on the fall play, the spring musical, and the Student-Directed Advanced Drama play. If you're looking to participate in all the fun and you want to perform onstage or work backstage, enroll in Advanced Drama. Many students love it so much, they take Drama all 4 years of high school! Plus, we take field trips to see Broadway shows!
El Camino produces several plays each year and a large-scale Broadway musical with actors, singers, dancers, a live full orchestra, professional choreography, costumes, sets and more!
El Camino is the only high school in the San Juan District with an active chartered troupe of The International Thespian Society (ITS), an honor society for high school actors. We even have an Academy Awards ceremony at the end of each school year! This special ceremony includes student monologue performances, student scenes, tons of trophies and awards, and senior scholarships!
El Camino also participates regularly in acting and script writing competitions at the San Juan Theatre Festival at American River College every year.
