The Casa Roble library is open Monday, Tuesday and alternate Thursdays from 7:30am to 3:00pm. Special arrangements can be requested for early opening or late closing.
The mission of the Casa Roble library is to support the curriculum of the high school by providing access to current, adequate and appropriate information, and to help students, teachers and staff become effective users of information.
Our goal is to work with the school community to provide excellent media services by providing appropriate research materials to implement the curriculum, obtaining and maintaining the necessary resources and technology, and working with staff and students to develop effective research strategies.
Generally, teachers and staff are given unlimited use of library materials. All materials need to be checked out via the computer. Please do not remove materials from the library without checking them out first. The length of time for each staff checkout is 3 weeks, but his can be modified depending on individual needs.
Students
Students should be encouraged to come to the library at any time during the day to check out books as long as they have a pass. They may borrow up to 3 books at a time and may keep them for up to 3 weeks. If needed, the books may be renewed for an additional 3 weeks.
Notices will be sent out as a reminder of overdue materials so that they will become available to meet the needs of other colleagues. Email is the method most frequently used for distribution of staff overdue notices.
Students
Overdue notices will be sent out daily. Please distribute them to students ASAP.
The library staff is eager to assist students and teachers with library research. Teachers wishing to use the library to conduct research will need to sign up with the librarian in advance. Please provide a copy of your assignment prior to your class visitation. This will allow the librarian to pull necessary materials and find relevant Internet sources. The librarian will also assist you with the development and of your research assignment at your request. Please do not sign up to use the library if you plan to be absent.
In order to make the most of your class visitation, the librarian likes to meet with the entire class to introduce them to the available resources and review with them specific research strategies.
Teachers need to remain with their classes for the duration of the visit. When you are in the library with your students they are under your direct supervision. The library is a quiet area, where students are to work independently. If during the visitation students need to work in groups to complete their research, they are to do so with discretion.
***When the librarian is not on campus the library is closed to all students and faculty - no exceptions!
Tips for a Successful Visit
§Sign up at least 24 hours in advance on the library calendar
§Provide a copy of assignment to librarian in advance
§Plan to stay with your classes for the duration of the visit
§Remind students to always carry IDs. They will not be able to use the computers or check out books without it
§Do not allow students to bring in food or drink
§Do not schedule class visitation on days when absent
Please do not send more than 5 students at a time with passes to the library. Students using the library during class time are to be issued passes from their classroom teacher. Write on the pass the purpose for visit (research, book checkout, computer use, etc…). When the students arrive in the library, they will need to show the pass to the library staff and sign in. The library staff will note the time the students left the library before they head back to class. Students who are not on task or are disruptive will immediately be sent back to class.
The librarian is available to conduct classes for students on a variety of topics – book talks, website evaluations and big6 Research strategies are just a few.
Freshman orientation of the library will be done approximately the third week of school or as soon as textbooks have been checked out. This will be done through the Language Arts and Special Education departments.
