Just a few years ago, Maryam Basiri was a student at Dyer-Kelly, learning English, adjusting to a new country and building the confidence to find her voice. Today, she returned to the same school as a mentor, helping younger multilingual learners build confidence in themselves.

From chopping and boiling to plating and serving, students are cooking up new skills this summer in Cooking with Cook at Arden Middle School!

To support student learning and well-being, the San Juan Unified Board of Education recently approved revisions to the district's mobile device policy that will require personal mobile devices to be restricted for the entire school day at elementary, K-8 and middle schools beginning in the 2026-27 school year.

Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, San Juan Unified has updated its e-transportation guidelines to support student and staff safety. Families are encouraged to review the new campus expectations, safety requirements and permitted devices before the start of the school year.

Over a decade ago, Angela Nicholas and Angela Spalding began their teaching careers at Thomas Edison Language Institute together. This year, they are both recognized as San Juan Unified’s 2027 Teachers of the Year.
