May/June 2020

Since this is our last newsletter of the year, it’s important to send out a number of heartfelt “thank yous”.  I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Clark Shueh for heading up our Intel PC Pals program this year!  Without Clark and his core group, this would not have been possible.  Also, thank you to Mrs. Koontz and her students for their dedication in emailing PC Pals.  Your hard work helped raise money for LeGette. Additionally, I’d like to thank Mrs. Teresi for all her hard work with our band and choir this year. The groups looked great at the King’s game and they represented LeGette well while performing in the community.  Additionally, I’d like to thank Mrs. Ellison and Mr. McClure for their countless hours working with our student council members and running a top-notch program this year!  And finally, I’d like to thank our PTO Exec Board and parents who regularly attend PTO meetings and help out. Without you, our school wouldn’t be the great destination school that it’s become.
Though we still have ten-days remaining in the school year and a lot of Zoom lessons and work to be completed, I’d like to take this moment to congratulate our LeGette students for a highly successful year!  All year, especially since March 13 with distance learning, you’ve worked really hard and have shown great gains in academic achievement.  And, I’m really proud of how nice and respectful you are as students! I’m lucky to be your principal.
I’d like to take a moment to personally thank my entire staff for their support and hard work throughout the year.  Everyone has gone above and beyond in adapting to our new distance learning model. The community should be proud of our dedicated educators who spent countless hours year-after-year helping our students learn academics, as well as how to be productive members of society.  This has been especially true while teaching students online!
And, I can’t forget to extend a big thank you to all our parents. Your support during the year and while in distance learning mode has been phenomenal. Everyone knows that trying to work at home (or outside the home) and teaching your kids at the same time has been extremely challenging. Everyone met this challenge and did so with the biggest smile possible. I highly encourage you to have your student continue reading over the summer, using LexiaCore 5, working on writing (i.e. letter to grandma or another relative), and their math facts (i.e. iReady math, Khan Academy, flash cards). Like great athletes, keeping the mind sharp in off-seasons leads to more productive future years. If you’d like suggestions on academic activities for the summer break, please ask your child’s teacher or visit our website. Simply click on the top banner, “Summer Ideas and Information."
All of us at LeGette say farewell this year to Mrs. Wagoner and Mrs. Ramos. They are both retiring and will be greatly, greatly missed! Please be sure to send them an email, so you can thank them for their service to our LeGette students!
And finally, I’d like to congratulate our 6th grade class who will be promoted at the end of the year. You’ve been a great group of young adults, especially with the challenge of this year!  We wish you the very best as you venture on to middle school next year.
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at school. Thank, you!
