Dear Arcade Families,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I am honored to serve as Arcade Middle School’s principal, and I look forward to partnering with you to ensure that our students have an engaging and rigorous middle school experience in a supportive and inclusive environment.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for the last 15 years, and I have served in a variety of teaching and leadership roles. I began my career as a high school English teacher before I transitioned to the middle school classroom. I came to San Juan Unified four years ago, and I have served as both vice principal and interim principal at Arden Middle School. I am especially excited to be joining Arcade as our dedicated and hard-working teachers and staff are ready to welcome students back into classrooms after over a year of distance and hybrid learning. While we will undoubtedly experience additional changes to our safety protocols and various other challenges and changes this school year, we are committed to promptly communicating these to you.
In that spirit, we are excited to introduce to you an adjustment to Arcade’s instructional model this school year. We will be imbedding an additional period for students into the school day, which we have entitled “GO” Period for “Growth and Opportunity” (you may see this period alternately called “Flex Period” in our site’s communications and materials). Students will cycle through different learning modules with different teachers, counselors, or social workers every two weeks. Each learning module will focus on a high leverage skill that is critical to your student’s success in high school and civic life. This learning model will also expose your student to additional, engaging content that they may not otherwise experience, provide your student instruction in skills with which they may need additional support, as well as introduce your student to more of their peers and Arcade staff. Many other updates are included in this mailer, including updates to our bell schedule and dress code and information about schedule pick-up, student immunizations, and updating your student’s emergency card.
I am truly passionate about teaching and learning and creating a campus shaped by and supportive of our diverse community, and I hope you will find me to be a compassionate, dedicated, and collaborative partner in your child’s education. I look forward to meeting you at our campus events throughout the year. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas to share, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 916-971-7300.
