• Kindergarten me at Central Avenue School

I am so excited and pleased to be a kindergarten teacher at Coyle Avenue Elementary.

This will be my ninth year at Coyle but my 25th year as a teacher. Before coming to Coyle in 2012, I had been a teacher at three other San Juan Unified schools and a master/mentor ECE teacher at Sierra College State Preschool. I have taught every primary grade from kinder to third but kindergarten is my absolute favorite. I also think it is one of the most challenging grades to teach - the most challenging AND the most rewarding! It has been said that the developmental growth in one year of kindergarten is equal to the developmental growth of children from 4th grade to 12th. Wow!

I am very excited to be working with parents, Ms. Hedrick and Ms. Banahan, and of course, our new Principal, Mr. James Reinhard this coming year as we embark on this new adventure.  Expectations are high - I aim to send all of my students on to first grade as lifelong lovers of reading and writing.  With your help and support, this will be an amazing year. We will start the year quite a bit differently, online. This is a first for me, although we teachers learned a lot about best practices for online learning last Spring. We are the adventurers. This year, we will explore new ways to become amazing learners! Together, we can do it!

Thank you so much for visiting this page. I hope you take the time to check out the Resources pages for ideas and activities to share with your kindergarten student and older students, as well.
