Attendance / Absences

  • Parent(s)/Guardian(s) have ten days (40 periods) to clear absences. This must be done by a note or telephone call to the Attendance Office (AO) by a parent or legal guardian. Failure to clear absences within ten school days will result in an irrevocable truancy. The AO telephone number is 971-7550. This number is accessible 24 hours a day.

Please give the following information (in a loud, clear voice) when leaving a telephone message:
    • The name of person leaving the message
    • Student's first and last name
    • Relationship to student of person calling (mother, father, guardian, etc.)
    • Date(s) (not days) of absence(s)
    • Give reason, e.g., ill, medical appointment, business appointment, etc.

Please write the following information on the absence note:
    • Student's first and last name
    • Name and relationship of person writing/signing the note
    • Date(s) of absence(s)
    • Reason for absence(s)

Following is a sample absence excuse note:
John Smith was absent October 1, 2,3rd due to illness.
    -Mrs. Jane Smith, mother

The Auto Dialer will call your home telephone for the previous days absence reported to the Attendance Office.

IF YOU HAVE A DOCTOR, DENTAL, COUNSELOR, PROBATION OR COURT APPOINTMENT, PLEASE GET DOCUMENTATION FROM ONE OF THE ABOVE.

If your child has a chronic illness/condition, please pick up a Chronic Illness form from the Attendance Office.

    EARLY DISMISSALS:
If a student leaves campus any time before the end of the school day, he/she must obtain an Early Dismissal from the AO before leaving the campus. Failure to obtain an Early Dismissal before leaving campus is in violation of our closed campus policy and will result in truancy. Send a note with your child requesting an early release. The note needs to be given to the AO upon arriving to begin the school day. If you are calling to request an early dismissal, please give the AO time to prepare paperwork and request student from class before your arrival, this will eliminate prolonged waiting.

    TELEPHONE MESSAGES TO STUDENTS:
Emergency messages only are taken and delivered to the classroom. If you MUST leave a message, please note that the message will be delivered to the student at the end of the period. We ask that arrangements for students be made before the student arrives at school. We are aware there are times when circumstances prevent this from occurring. Each time an interruption to the classroom occurs, the instructor is interrupted from his lessons and thirty or so students are distracted.

    ATTENDANCE INFORMATION FOR SENIORS:
Seniors with 36 or more truancies (cuts) will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. They may receive a diploma if they meet the academic requirements for graduation, but will not be able “to walk” in the ceremony. In order to assure participation in the graduation ceremony, please check and correct your attendance report weekly. Remember, you only have TEN (10) DAYS TO CLEAR ABSENCES.
