    Requirements

    Completing 220 credits of high school work in specific academic areas.

     

     

    Take and pass each of the four subtests of the GED test with 145/per test or higher. Each subtest must be at least 145 to pass each subject.

    Taking and passing the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE).

    What is it?

    An official high school diploma.

    A certification of high school academic skills accepted by most employers.

    A California legal equivalent to a high school diploma.

    A certificate indicating high school course requirements were achieved.

    area requirements

    English, US History,

    World History, Math including Algebra, Fine Arts, Government, Social Studies Elective, Economics, Science, and Electives.

    English Language Arts, Social Studies, Reading, Science, Mathematics (geometry, statistics, algebra).

    English (reading writing), Mathematics (geometry, statistics algebra)

    Same as diploma.

    Advantages

    Accepted by all employers, colleges and some branches of the military.

     

    If you have significant credits earned from prior schools this can be a good choice.

    Accepted by most employers, colleges, and some branches of the military.

     

    Some testing sites offer in other languages.

     

    Could be good choice if you are very low in high school credits.

    Accepted by some California employers and colleges.

     

    It has less subject requirements to pass than the GED.

    Accepted by most employers and some colleges.

     

    Disadvantages

    May take longer to achieve if you do not have many previous high school credits. 

     

     

    Not accepted by some employers. The military has some stipulations and may not accept the GED for enlistment.

     

    Inquire with military branch for requirements.

    May not be accepted outside of California, and the military may not accept.

    Is not equivalent to a high school diploma (because the CAHSEE was not completed), and may not be accepted by all employers, all colleges, or all branches of the military.
