PARENT INVOLVEMENT AT KINGSWOOD
There are many ways to get connected within Kingswood. Parents are always welcome to volunteer. During the year there are many opportunities for you to be part of your student education.
Family Friday/Parent Coffee- is a great opportunity to support your child at school to share the joy and experience of reading. Come every first Friday of the month and read to your child at his/her classroom. After reading in your child’s classroom, join the Principal and the Vice Principal in our monthly meeting. Have a cup of coffee and donuts while you have the opportunity to discuss different topics regarding your student’s achievements and success at Kingswood.
Parent Workshops-Kingswood provides a variety of parent workshop during the school year. In these workshops parents will learn different parenting skills in order to support their children at home.
Mentoring Program-The Kingswood Mentoring program is a partnership of parents, staff and community that seek to encourage mentoring of students. Our goal is to build a one-to-one relationship for children who have the need of a positive role model. Mentors meet with the child one day a week during the student’s lunch.
Parent Liaisons- Kingswood has three Parent Liaisons: Brandie Slover-Garcia & Larithza Morales. Mrs. Garcia is in the cafeteria and at Family Walk and Talk each morning. Mrs. Morales is in the office and front of school each morning. You can email both liaisons to inquire about ways to support our fundraisers, volunteer, or get more information on any upcoming parent workshops. Their emails are larithza.morales@sanjuan.edu and brandie.slovergarcia@sanjuan.edu. Additionally, Kim Fitzpatrick acts as a third liaison when she is not in the classrooms as an instructional assistant. She can be found each morning at the lending library. Our Parent Liaisons, help gather support, spread information, and organize family involvement and fundraisers.
Watch Dogs- Fathers, Uncles, Grandfathers, and positive male role models can be fingerprinted for free at the district office and volunteer as often as possible to assist in classrooms and recess duty through our Watch Dogs program- Dads on Campus. This program allows all students to work with and learn from positive male role models. You can inqurie about the program by emailing the principal or stopping by the front office.
Family Activity Nights & Family Movie Nights- The first Friday of each month, the school hosts a movie night in the cafeteria from 6-7:45. Entrance is free and snacks are sold to help profit student events. Families can bring their chairs, pillows, and blankets to enjoy the family movie. There are two Family Activity Nights each year and one Family Dance Night.
