Parents and Families,
Welcome to Kindergarten! I’m sure you are as excited as I am to begin this wonderful adventure in your child’s education! I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher! I hope everyone had a great summer and is ready to get into the swing of a new school year!
We have a very exciting year in Kindergarten ahead of us and I am anxious to get started! Let me tell you a little about myself. I am in my 17th year of teaching. I went to college in Durango, Colorado where we (my husband and I) skied more than 50 days a year as ski instructors at Purgatory Ski Resort. It was my job as a children’s ski instructor that made me realize that teaching children was what I wanted to do with my life. I was a preschool teacher through college and have always enjoyed working with children. My husband and I were married in Cimmaron, Colorado and we moved to the western-slope town of Montrose. It was there that I was hired for my first teaching position at the same school my grandmother went to as a child! I taught first grade for two years in Colorado before we decided to move back to California to be closer to our families. I grew up in Chico, and my husband is from Visalia. We decided on Carmichael and love it here! I was hired with San Juan to teach first grade at Sierra Oaks for two years before being surplussed (what luck!) to Del Dayo... where I’ve been ever since! This is my thirteenth year teaching Kindergarten at Del Dayo where I believe we have created a fabulous program!
We have three children, all attend Del Dayo. Our oldest son, Calin, is in sixth grade this year, our daughter, Katelyn, is in fourth grade and our youngest (and wildest!) son, Carson, is in first grade! I had a wonderful summer playing with our kids at our cabin in Colorado and am now excited to start a new school year for the whole family! My class mascot has always been a bulldog, my favorite animal! We had an English Bulldog for 11 years named Jezibelle who was the best pet ever and left us with many hilarious stories that I will share in class. The kids will get to know Jez well and come to love her, too!
My enthusiasm for teaching is difficult to convey in a letter, however, I believe it will be apparent through the activities in which we will take part throughout the year! I just completed my masters degree (whew!) in Integrating the Arts into the Curriculum; it was quite an undertaking and extremely fulfilling! I have so many new techniques and ideas to enhance and reach all the different learning styles, I can't wait to get started! Teaching is a very important part of my life and who I am, as you will see from being in my class! I can’t wait to get to know all of your children, thank you for entrusting me with your most valuable possessions!
Welcome to Kindergarten and, for those “first-timers,” welcome to Del Dayo Elementary!
Here’s to a great year!
