It was fantastic seeing so many families and eager-to-work fifth graders at this week’s Mustangs Making a Difference event! Thank you all for signing up to volunteer, lending a hand in the moment, and attending the potluck dinner. The kids really enjoyed themselves and raised monetary and physical item donations at the same time. Pictures of the event are up now, so be sure to click on the Photos link here on our site to check them out.
Heads up! Positive Prevention Plus lessons are just around the corner! As mentioned at Back to School Night (waaaaayyyyyyy back in August), this fifth grade curriculum will kick off with a two-week period of everyone being bombarded with reminders about the lesson dates as well as a preview of the materials so you can make an informed decision as to your child’s participation. Look for an email on Monday, 6 February with all the info you’ll need regarding Positive Prevention Plus.
The class is on track for their Topic 10 test in math to take place on Thursday, 9 February. They’ll take the usual practice test the day before (on 8 February). We’ve been covering how to add and subtract mixed numbers with uncommon denominators. While the bulk of the process is pretty straightforward, there are a couple of finicky steps that need a little extra attention, such as borrowing from and regrouping a mixed number in order to create a minuend that has an improper fraction so that subtraction can take place. Please check in with your kids to see how they’re feeling about the topic before we get ready to test on it next Thursday!
While this spring’s CAASPP testing window doesn’t officially open until towards the end of March, our testing schedule is now up in the Current Events column for your reference. We’ll start testing first thing in the morning each day, which means prompt arrival at school is greatly appreciated so that students can make the most of their testing sessions.
Everyone received a class list this past week for the purposes of our upcoming Valentine’s Day exchange. Handing out Valentines is optional, of course, but I do ask that if a student chooses to do so, they have one for everyone in class. Please be sure to useless the name checklist.
Directions for the yearbook cover contest will stay up here until the due date of 10 February:
