• The Spirit of San Juan 2017 honorees were: 

    Dan Brown Dan Brown
    Math teacher, Sylvan Middle School

    Dan is a long-time math teacher who leads Sylvan’s annual holiday food drive, which has helped hundreds of families in the Citrus Heights community. He also goes above and beyond to help students who need school supplies or transportation to school.

    Erin Frey Erin Frey
    Volunteer, Twin Lakes Elementary School 

    Erin is an active parent, PTA board member, yard duty and Boy Scouts leader. She volunteers her time at the school and her generosity makes her the go-to person for help with events and projects.

    JoAnne Lang JoAnne Lang
    Volunteer, Whitney Avenue Elementary

    JoAnne began volunteering with the district ten years ago and is currently an active volunteer in a kindergarten classroom. Turning 80 years old this coming summer, JoAnne remains active in her community and is committed to sharing her positive energy.

    Omar Marroquin Omar Marroquin
    Coach, Encina Preparatory High School

    Omar coaches soccer and volleyball teams, and recently began working as an instructional aid at Encina. He is often seen going above and beyond for his students, including putting in time on the weekends to set-up activities.

    Rosina Ruano Rosina Ruano
    Bilingual instructional assistant, Howe Avenue Elementary School

    Rosina is known for her positive attitude and her deep relationships with community partners. Despite battling cancer, she continues to share her positive attitude and dedication with the students at Howe Avenue Elementary.

    Tammi Shelton Tammi Shelton
    Vice Principal, Dyer-Kelly Elementary School

    Along with her duties of being vice principal, Tammi has gone above and beyond for her students by foster caring for two students who needed temporary care. Tammi works tirelessly to find solutions to improve the lives of her students and staff.
