Parent Focus Groups

  • Illustration of three faces In 2018, San Juan Unified partnered with K12 Insight to conduct focus groups to better understand parent perceptions of the district and its schools. The results will inform district and school decisions.

While focus group participants represented parents from a wide range of schools and grades, findings should not be generalized to all San Juan Unified parents. Rather, findings reflect only the perceptions and opinions of the focus group participants and should be used to encourage further dialogue between school and district leaders, parents, staff members, and students.

In May and June 2018, K12 Insight conducted eight 90-minute parent satisfaction focus group with current parents within San Juan Unified. The executive summary of these focus groups is available. The eight groups were as follows:

    • Early Childhood Education (ECE) program parents
    • African American parents
    • Spanish-speaking parents
    • Regional focus groups:
      • Western region
      • Central region (x2 groups)
      • Eastern region
      • Citrus Heights

On Aug. 9, 2018, K12 Insight conducted a 90-minute focus group discussion with 12 families that were newly enrolled in San Juan Unified School District to gather feedback on why they chose a San Juan Unified school and how the district could improve its recruitment efforts. The executive summary of the new family focus group is available.
