Trustee Area Transition Timeline
On April 9, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-48-20 and on April 28, 2020, the Board of Education approved pausing the timeline on the District’s intent to transition to by-trustee areas elections until the stay-at-home order, due to COVID-19, has been lifted, to allow for more participation from the community. Once neither state nor local public health officials recommend or impose social distancing measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the timeline for transitioning to by-trustee area elections will resume. The Board of Education discussed and adopted resolution 2982, declaring the intent to transition to trustee areas elections in 2020 and held a public hearing to seek a State Board of Education waiver of the election requirement. Resolution 2983 was adopted authorized the superintendent to seek the waiver.

Pre-map public hearing #1 - A demographer hired by the district reviewed the map and map criteria development processes

Pre-map public hearing #2 - A second public hearing to receive input on the criteria that should be used to develop maps was paused while the District reviewed the Governor's Executive Order N-48-20.

The Board of Education adopted Resolution No. 2991, declaring its intent to temporarily postpone hearings related to the board's transition to by-trustee area elections until such time as neither state nor local public health officials recommend or impose social distancing measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

California State Board of Education Meeting: The California State Board of Education heard the district's request to waive California Education Code Section 5020, and portions of sections 5019, 5021, and 5030, that require a districtwide election to establish a by-trustee-area method of election.
