    Our proven two-part program combines medical terminology, professional communications skills, hands-on clinical practice, and a supervised externship in a healthcare facility.

     

    Upon successful completion of both parts (listed below), eligible students will be placed in an unpaid externship in a healthcare facility.

    Step 1:

    Review the Orientation PowerPoint presentation .  This presentation will give you an overview of the course description and expectations and time commitment required to successfully complete the program.      Part 1 – Medical Terminology and Work Skills

    Oct. 6 – Dec.  17, 2020 

    ONLINE: Independent study, 160 hours

    Cost- $1176.00  

    Introduction to clinical medical assisting fundamentals, medical terminology and professional communication.

    Students will learn foundational skills that frame the professional patient-friendly, entry-level clinical medical assistant. This course covers medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, common diseases, and clinical skills associated with each body system and patient care. Successful students will be eligible to earn industry standard healthcare certifications

    Note: Students successfully completing Part 1 may be eligible to earn up to 3 hours credit at American River College.

     

    Part 2 – Clinical Lab and Externship

    Dates to be determined when we are able to safely provide in-person instruction. 

    Classroom instruction:  180 hours
    (at Sunrise Tech Center)

    Externship:   160 hours

    Cost- $1324.00

    Introduction to clinical patient care, assisting physicians in patient exams, and minor procedures.

    Students will learn and practice one-on-one clinical skills using both live people and medical models. Skills include taking vitals (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, administering medication, drawing blood, and collecting, transporting and handling lab specimen, and performing EKGs. The course also covers pediatric and geriatric health management including immunization schedules and associated patient care.
