    Summer School 2021

     

    Choices for summer school are listed below. Each option has its own process and you will need to work with your grade-specific counselor to sign up.

     

    San Juan Unified

    San Juan Unified School District is offering summer school this year. To enroll in SJUSD summer school you will need to contact your school counselor, who will enroll you in the appropriate classes. There are multiple models being used: 

     

    Intersession

    This is a "boot camp" style offering for students who were close to passing a class in the second semester, but received a high "F" or an Incomplete. The intersession will allow students a few extra days to prove their learning and change their grade.

    Cost: Free

    Credits Available: 5-10

    Course Begin: June 10th - June 18th

     

    Seat-Based Summer School

    SJUSD is planning on having seat-based summer school classes. Classes will be taught through a hybrid-model; some in-class instruction, as well as some online instruction. Classes will be offered Monday - Thursday from 8am - 2pm.

    Cost: Free

    Credits Available: 5-10

    Courses Begin: June 21st - July 9th (Session 1) & July 12th - July 30th (Session 2)

     

    Independent Study Summer School

    SJUSD is offering summer school classes through independent study. Classes will be provided through the APEX platform, or through independent study "packets" through El Sereno. Although students will complete most of the assignments at home, on their own. Students will be expected to meet with their facilitator/master teacher multiple times - most likely through Zoom.

    Cost: Free

    Credits Available: 5-10

    Courses Begin: June 21st - July 9th (Session 1) & July 12th - July 30th (Session 2)

     

    Options for Youth Charter

    Options for Youth is a local charter school offering a July Intercession courses for local students. For this summer, all instruction will be done through distance learning. Therefore, students need access to a computer and the internet. Staff at Options have requested that your school counselor facilitate the application process, to ensure you enroll in the appropriate classes. If you would like to take classes during the summer through Options for Youth, contact your school counselor so they can fill out the application.

    Registration: Starts March 1st

    Cost: Free

    Credits Available: 5-15

    Courses Begin: July 1st

     

    American River College

    American River College allows high school students to take college-level classes during the summer through their Advanced Education program.

    In order to take classes at ARC, you will need to enroll as an ARC student. The link above has all the information needed to enroll in summer courses. Summer registration for ARC is March 15th - May 28th. Though if you want to attend the first session of summer school, you should register before the end of March.

    Cost: $46/unit ($138 per class)

    Credits Available: 10-20

    Courses Begin: June 7th

     

    Paseo Grande Charter

    Paseo Grande Charter school is a virtual high school, which offers all its classes online. However, Paseo Grande states they provide live online class session to teach difficult concepts, as well as virtual tutoring sessions. If you are interested in enrolling Paseo Grande for summer school, your parent/guardian will need to visit the website and enroll you. Important: You will need to bring a copy of your final Paseo Grande transcript to your school counselor to have the courses applied to your graduation requirements.

    Cost: Free (summer only)

    Credits Available: 5-15

    Courses Begin: July 1st

     

    Silicon Valley High

    Silicon Valley High is a virtual high school, which offers all its classes online.The online courses are taught by credentialed teachers and online tutoring is available. If you are interested in enrolling at Silicon Valley High for summer school, your parent/guardian will need to visit the website and enroll you. Important: You will need to bring a copy of your final Silicon Valley High transcript to your school counselor to have the courses applied to your graduation requirements.

    Cost: $95 per course

    Credits Available: 5-15

    Courses Begin: Whenever you enroll
