  • COVID-19 testing is an important tool to help detect and prevent the spread of the virus. All students and staff age 4 and above are encouraged to test for COVID-19 once every other week even if they've been vaccinated. This is known as screening testing and can help to detect early infections and those that are asymptomatic before they spread to others.

In some situations testing may be required. These include:

    • After someone who has experienced symptoms consistent with COVID-19 wishes to return to school or work but has not secured a medical professional's note or completed the required 10-day waiting period from the onset of symptoms.
    • For employees, volunteers, vendors, and others who are not vaccinated for COVID-19 but provide services to schools.
    • Students enrolled in a band program where wind instruments are played indoors with less than six feet of spacing.
    • Students who participate in wrestling or competitive cheer indoors without the use of face coverings.
    • Participants involved with some field trips.
    • Participants involved with some optional activities.

San Juan Unified has worked to increase access to COVID-19 testing with free options available to all student and staff.
