    Levels of Instruction

    Directed Studies -This is a study skills class. Students who have been identified as needing assistance with work from regular education classes are taught organization and test taking strategies.

    Grade Level -This level includes curriculum from grade-level text resources. Teaching strategies and methodology are tailored to help students meet and exceed grade level standards.

    AVID- Advancement Via Individual Determination Program - This level includes curriculum from grade-level text resources.

    Middle School High Achiever (HA) Program
    - This level includes curriculum from the grade-level text resources, supplemented by materials that are two years above grade level. Teaching strategies emphasize advanced writing skills, critical thinking, and high expectations regarding grading, pacing and depth of materials covered. Placement in this program is determined at the school site during Spring registration.
     
     

    7th/8th Grade English Courses will cover:

    • Literature - short stories, novels, poetry, and expository text
    • Writing - autobiography, narrative, response to literature, summary, and persuasion

    • Grammar - parts of speech, sentence structure, usage, capitalization, and punctuation

    • Spelling - rules, patterns and principles

    • Vocabulary - words from literature, history, vocabulary text and the study of Greek and Latin roots

    • Speaking/Listening - group presentations, oral reports, and drama
