Application Process

  • Welcome to SJUSD Guest Teacher Application Process!

    The following steps should be completed by candidates wishing to substitute teach in the San Juan Unified Schools.
     

    Step 1. Apply Online

     

    Complete all required fields on the SJUSD Guest (Substitute) Teacher Certificated Online Application through Edjoin.

    Step 2. Orientation Confirmation

    After you have completed your online application through Edjoin, Human Resources will screen your application for consideration. You will be contacted via email if you meet the requirements to be considered as sub. In this email you will receive a new hire packet along with the guest teacher handbook and orientation appointment information.  Please print the new hire packet and complete all forms.  Also, you will need to respond to the e-mail confirming your orientation appointment.

    If you do not possess a full credential, and do not have classroom experience, you need to complete the  Utah State University Substitute Training Program (Option A Subskills online). The cost is currently $39.95. You must pass the Sub Assessment with a composite score of 85% or higher.


    Step 3. Orientation

    Prior to attending the Orientation, please make sure all documents have been completed in the Guest Teacher SAAD packet.  The following form will be given to you at the orientation appointment:
    When you attend the Orientation, please bring the following items as well as:
    • a copy of your teaching credential; OR
    • a copy of your Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit or verification that you have applied for an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit by submitting a copy of a degree, posted transcript, CBEST scores and Certificate of Clearance
      AND
    • the Sub Assessment Diploma with a passing grade of 85% or above showing completion of the Substitute Teacher Training Program.

    Documents not provided at the Orientation will need to be mailed or delivered to SJUSD Human Resources, 3738 Walnut Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608 prior to starting work as a guest teacher.

     

    Step 4.  Welcome to SJUSD as a Guest Teacher!

    Once you have completed the Orientation and Training, and we receive your fingerprint clearance and all required forms are submitted, you will be notified that you are cleared to sub.  Please remember that substitute teaching is at will and assignments are subject to availability and no one is guaranteed an assignment, even after the application selection process is complete. Most of our Guest Teachers have the opportunity to work at least 3-4 days per week.
    • You will find substitute teaching assignments through our Sub Calling System, SmartFindExpress. You will be given instructions at your Orientation.

    • Time sheets are due the 10th of every month. You will be paid the following month on the 15th. Click here for the guest teacher time sheet.
