First 5 School Readiness
First 5 California was created by voters under Proposition 10 to recognize that children's health and education is a top priority, especially in the early years of development.
Research shows that the brain develops dramatically during the first five years, these years are a time of significant growth and change. What parents do during the first five years to support their child's growth will have a meaningful impact throughout the child's life. Making those years count is what San Juan Unified's First 5 is all about.
San Juan Unified's First 5 makes a child's first five years of life count by promoting School Readiness which includes five major areas:
- Physical Well-being & Motor Development
- Social & Emotional Development
- Approaches to Learning
- Language & Development
- Cognition & General Knowledge
In addition to promoting school readiness, San Juan Unified's First 5 includes parenting education because we believe the foundation for School Readiness begins in the child's home. We want to give the parents and caregivers the tools necessary to ensure their children reach their greatest potential. We know that positive family interactions during this time have a profound effect on the way children grow and develop for future success in school and in life is our goal.
We serve families who live within the following catchment areas: 95821, 95825, 95864, 95608. For further information on how to register your child please contact Lizet Martinez at (916) 979-8808 or lizet.martinez@sanjuan.edu
