Excitement is ramping up for Arcade’s new classroom buildings, which are now beginning to take recognizable shape. Students and staff can see the new administration building and multipurpose room peeking above the safety fence, while the foundation of the new science building is shaping up.

The Draft Preliminary Environmental Assessment report for the proposed new Arcade Fundamental Middle School Project at 3500 Edison Ave, Sacramento, CA 95821 is now available. There will be a public hearing during the Board of Education meeting on June 27 where the PEA will be discussed. Please direct any comments to Nicholas Arps.

On June 8, 2022, San Juan Unified project staff held a meeting with the community surrounding Arcade Fundamental Middle School. That meeting was held to allow district officials to hear the concerns about the potential project, including traffic, sound, landscaping and other issues. The meeting included a full overview of the initial project design, an overview of construction logistics, an opportunity for feedback and mitigation measures, and a Q&A breakout. 

No, the property line will remain unchanged.

Yes, the initial site plan includes only single story buildings.

Yes, San Juan Unified will work with project contractors and surrounding neighbors to collect feedback and input on landscaping and fencing options.

Yes, the new campus will include perimeter fencing and have a single point of entry for security and safety of students and staff.

San Juan Unified will work with the residential neighbors surrounding the site to solicit input about fencing/landscape options that will work to dampen sound. Project staff will work with their consultants to selectively place and face speakers away from homes, as well as work to install an upgraded system for sound control.

Yes, for emergency purposes, that lane is drivable. It will not be an open vehicle path.

Yes, there are plans to include a fence of some type to prevent students from accessing this area.

Construction crews will be working within Sacramento County guidelines, from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., however, heavy activity will not begin first thing in the morning.

Currently, the anticipated start date for construction is fall 2022, with an estimated completion in fall 2024.

There will be a safe route of travel for students that are walking or riding. This will be by existing county sidewalks and new onsite sidewalks. Additional crosswalks may be required once the review process is finished with both the state and county agencies.
