Dear Carmichael Elementary families & community,
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year at Carmichael Elementary. My name is DJ Latcham and I am very proud to be the new Principal of Carmichael Elementary! Over my career I have been a classroom volunteer, elementary and middle school teacher, mentor, coach, and a school administrator. I am married to my amazing wife and we are the proud parents of twin girls.
I look forward to working together to provide an excellent school year for our students. Our goal is to work collaboratively as a community so that students can learn, be successful, and prepared for an ever changing world. We welcome and encourage all families to participate in their children’s education as much as possible. Families can stay connected by checking the Carmichael website, following Carmichael on social media, reading the newsletters sent home and listening to the weekly phone messages. Please make sure that we have your current email address and phone numbers on file so that you can receive these notifications. We encourage families to join our School Site Council (SSC) or attend the meetings. Families are also encouraged to attend our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meetings. Finally, I have an open-door policy, which means if I am not in a meeting or have students in my office, I am happy to meet you.
Student attendance is critical to student success. We are excited to provide 5 days a week in-person learning this year, but with Covid-19 guidelines in place. As Covid-19 guidelines are changing almost weekly, please look for additional information coming soon for in-person learning. We start school at 8:45 am, which means that our campus is not open for drop off until 8:10 am. At 8:10 am we will have supervision for your child and they can come to the Multipurpose Room for breakfast. Also, we can keep everyone safe by following the drop off and pick up procedures that are outlined in our Carmichael handbook on our website.
The incredible Carmichael Elementary teachers and support staff are committed to addressing the needs and skills of all of our students. We pride ourselves in building relationships with students and their families. If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact the staff. Over the next few months I will be learning all I can about the history, traditions, and programs that make Carmichael Elementary an amazing school. If you happen to see me on campus, please stop by to introduce yourself and say hello!
