Dear Families,

My name is Dr. Shana Henry and I am honored to serve as your founding principal for Katherine Johnson Middle School (KJMS) scheduled to open in August 2021.  It is my goal to provide a memorable middle school experience for all scholars and families that is grounded in achievement, integrity, safety, and excellence.  

I have over 20 years in education with experience as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, assistant principal and 16 years as a principal in elementary, middle and high school levels.  Having the opportunity to educate and inspire our scholars is a responsibility that is very important to me.  It is my hope that we will work in partnership to help them reach every goal they aspire to.  

This year is very exciting as you will be part of the first class for Katherine Johnson Middle School.  While we will be sharing the physical campus with Encina High School, our scholars will be in a separate area of the school. There will be shared spaces like the cafeteria, gym and library, but students will not be scheduled in those spaces at the same time.  Our district office will notify us about future construction plans. 

As we gear up for the opening of our school, please note the following important information:

• Get to Know Katherine Johnson Middle School and Registration for ALL SCHOLARS will be on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.  You can attend the 9am, 1pm or 6pm session in the big gym.  It is very important you attend one of these sessions with your middle school scholar.

• Schedule Pick Up and KJMS Community Event will be held on August 10, 2021 at 5pm.  Scholars will get to meet their teacher, enjoy some food and get their school schedules.
