Dear Sierra Oaks Families,
We have done it! We have reached the end of the year! School’s out for Summer!
Thank you all for your support this year! We have celebrated our kindergartners big accomplishment, completing their first year, and will be promoting our 8th grade students to high school on Tuesday. Congratulation 8th grade students! Please remember that Tuesday, our last day of the school year, is a minimum day with dismissal at 12:25.
I would like to recognize and congratulate some of our staff moving on to new opportunities at the years’ end. First, please join me in thanking Mr. Lewis for his years of serving and supporting our Sierra Oaks students, and congratulating him on his new position as a vice principal with Visions in Education. Congratulations Mr. Lewis! At the same time, I would like to thank Mrs. Kane for all she has done for Sierra Oaks. Mrs. Kane and Mrs. Macomber are no longer teaching part-time, and as a result of both going full-time, Mrs. Kane has accepted an open full-time position at Del Dayo Elementary. We will miss you, Mrs. Kane! Also, please join me in wishing the best to Mrs. Monaghan as she will be teaching English Language Development full-time next year at Greer Elementary. Thank you for all your hard work with our students this year Mrs. Monaghan! Lastly, but certainly not least, please join me in congratulating Mrs. Kozel on her promotion to middle school vice principal! Mrs. Kozel was selected for both elementary and middle school vice principal pools, and has accepted an offer to be the new vice principal at Will Rogers Middle School. I am certain Mrs. Kozel’s leadership strengths and the experience she has gained here at Sierra Oaks will serve her well at her new school. She will be a great asset to the Will Rogers students, staff, and community.
The Sierra Oaks staff is also proud to report that our school continues to make significant academic growth as measured by student achievement on the spring CAASPP test. Although our 2019 scores are not finalized, we expect a significant increase of 7-8% in English language arts and 5-6% increase in mathematics. We are proud of the continued gains, making two years of significant increases! Great job Sierra Oaks staff!
Lastly, I hope that everyone enjoys some time off from school over the summer. I hope all of our students continue to have new experiences, continuing to learn and apply learning from the school year. I look forward to seeing everyone rested and ready for a new school year on the first day of school, Thursday, August 14th. Be on the lookout for our Welcome Back letter with information about the new school year in the first week of August.
