Covid protocols are still in place for the 2021-22 school year.  Policies have changed as a result of local and state guidance. Some of the notable changes are:

    • Students attend full school days, in-person, in fully enrolled classrooms (no more cohorts).
    • All students & adults on campus are required to wear masks when indoors.
    • Masks are not required outdoors (social distancing will continue to be promoted).
    • Students will eat lunch outdoors in our courtyard – weather permitting.
    • As a result of current case rates – No classroom volunteers.
    • Off campus field trips are still on hold, but being discussed at district level.
    • Some school events will be scheduled which will include protocols for spacing, wearing of mask, and staggered times. Outdoor spaces will be utilized when available and weather permitting.
    • Covid exposure protocols remain in place. Should a student be exposed to a covid positive pearson, while wearing a mask, the exposed may come back to school rather than quarantine, but will require Covid testing twice per week.

Students eating breakfast may arrive at 7:40 a.m.  Other students are requested to arrive after 7:55 when supervision begins.  Students are to be picked up within 15 minutes of dismissal as there is no afternoon supervision beyond that time.

We encourage all parents to join us for the “Welcome Back” coffee sponsored by the PTA which occurs at 8:00 AM on the first day of school, August 12th . This takes place outside at the front of the school.  Although this event takes place outside, we ask that parents wear masks while on campus.  Of course, remove your mask for coffee.  Social distancing protocols will also be promoted.

We have a number of great additions to the Sierra Oaks staff again this year.  Feel free to introduce yourself to any of our new staff members when you get a chance.  Please welcome to our middle school team,  8th grade English & history teacher, Erin Earnshaw.  Also, new to the 8th grade team, teaching 6th and 8th grade history, is Brian Brickey.  New to our middle school intervention team is Nate Kropp.  In 5th grade, please welcome Anna Campbell to the Sierra Oaks team.  Additionally, in 3rd grade, please welcome Malcolm Richards to our team.  In the library,  we welcome Audrey Tachiera to our team.  We also welcome new specialists.  Please welcome Julianna Yorba as our new art teacher.  Also please welcome Jasmine Melendez to Sierra Oaks as our new music teacher.  In Discovery Club, please welcome Mia Randolph.  Again, please welcome all our new staff members by stopping by and saying hello at your convenience.

Please remember to go online and fill out your child’s emergency card information. Directions for accessing parent portal and updating information is found using the following link: https://www.sanjuan.edu/Page/42273 We appreciate having this emergency contact information as soon as possible.  It is vital that you update this information as changes occur.

Information from the PTA accompanies this letter.   A greeting from the PTA president and information about PTA activities, as well as membership information, and ways to support our great PTA are included.

You will also receive the San Juan Unified School District Parent Handbook in digital form:  https://www.sanjuan.edu/handbook. This handbook contains important information on programs, policies and procedures for our district.   You will want to keep this available all year long.  School rules are posted on the school's website which may be accessed through www.sanjuan.edu.   Copies of the rules are available in the school office if you do not have online access.

San Juan Unified will continue to offer free meals to all students for the 2021-2022 school year.

Adjusting to federal and state guidelines, families are asked to complete the School Funding Form, rather than the federal application for free and reduced price meals, via the Parent Portal between July 1 and Oct. 31.

We are looking forward to an exciting school year.  We welcome your input and involvement.  If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the office staff at (916) 575-2390.

It is very important that you plan to attend our annual Back to School Night to meet your child’s teacher or teachers, learn about grade level curriculum, policies, and connect with other parents.

    Back to School Night – Wednesday, August 18th   (6:00 – 6:30 Courtyard;  6:30– 7:30 Classroom)
