Principal's Message

  • Welcome Skycrest Families to the 2022-2023 school year! As we prepare to start a new school year, we are all filled with excitement and anticipation as to what this year will bring.  Our annual Meet and Greet is scheduled for Wednesday, August 10th. The staff and I look forward to welcoming all returning students and families and welcoming all the new families to Skycrest.

The First Day of School is quickly approaching, we hope everyone had a wonderful summer break and is ready to get back into the routine of school.  Reminder we do have a new start and dismissal time:

    Monday – Wednesday, Friday  - 8:55 – 3:20 PM

    Thursday – 8:55 – 2:05 PM

*Students who are eating breakfast may come to the site as early as 8:25 and must go to the cafeteria.  Students who are not eating may not be on campus until 8:40 and will go directly to the playground.

Attendance is KEY for student success!  Please support your student by working to be on time and at school everyday. Students miss out when they are absent, so work with us to ensure your child is at school every day and on time. A student who is not in school misses valuable instructional time with their teacher and peers; we ask that you work with us to ensure your child is at school every day and on time.   We are planning various Attendance Boosters, Incentives and Spirit Weeks to help support our students be at school everyday.

Being on time means you are ready and in line at 8:55.  It does not mean being in the car line, or getting out of the car.  Help your child start their day off positively by being at school and on time!  Tardy slips will be issued starting  Monday, August 15th  to students who arrive after the bell. Some helpful tips that will support you and your child to be on time: get clothes laid out and ready the night before, have backpacks ready and set by the door the night before, pack your snack and/or lunch the night before, set alarms 5-10 minutes earlier, leave with enough time to allow for traffic.  Whatever helps you to plan ahead and give you those extra minutes to help make the drop off easier and avoid the rush and crowds.  Remember if your child is late, they need to check into the office and get a tardy slip.

The staff and I have planned various events and activities for this school year, we invite all parents to participate in these activities.  Volunteers are always welcomed at Skycrest!  To be a volunteer, you must follow the volunteer clearance procedures through the district.  You can check in with our secretary, Kady Gerolamy, if you have any questions.   If your schedule allows for it we invite you to volunteer in the classroom, the playground or at any of our events.  See Ms. Rangel If you are interested in applying for a Rec Aide.  Rec Aide positions are available for both volunteering or as paid positions.  I have also planned several parent meeting times, Mugs and Muffins, so that a forum to receive and share feedback is available.  I look forward to meeting with families as we work together in providing a positive learning environment.  I also invite you to join PTO, we will be meeting monthly on site.  Check the Skycrest calendar or the Year At A Glance handout for the dates to our special events and meetings,

Character Education is an important trait for all students.  We will continue our focus on Character Education, and the District’s Social Justice Standards, as we work to support and develop a collaborative learning environment focused on academic success.  School wide rules and guidelines are in place and will be reviewed with all students.  The staff and I ask for your support in following these rules and expectations as we work to further develop the outstanding Character of our Skycrest students. We also ask that all parents and adults who come onto the campus follow these rules.  The staff and I thank you in advance for your support.    Our schoolwide mantra is: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe!

Parents don’t forget to mark your calendars and save the date for Back to School Night.  Back to School Night will be held on Wednesday, August 24.

    K-2nd, 2/3 combo, and G6 and G8 teachers will present from 6:15 – 7:00 PM.

    TK, 3rd – 5th, and G5 and G7 will present from 7:15 – 8:00 PM.

Be informed and attend this event to hear the plans for this school year.

I look forward to working with you and your children throughout the year.

Please contact me  if you have any questions,
