Parent/Student Program Agreement
An Open Program could not exist without the continuing support of the parents. For the sake of our children and the educational processes at work in an Open Program environment, parents are asked to make a personal pledge to support their students and their learning environment in this non-traditional program. An experiential approach to learning requires the engagement of the parent, student and teacher as equal stakeholders in the Orangevale Open community.
Parent Commitment
I agree to support the philosophy and elements of the Open Program. I understand the following opportunities are available to me, should I wish to volunteer; I can find out about other opportunities by asking the teachers/staff or by reading the weekly newsletter, The Connection. I understand there are many opportunities, should I wish to volunteer, that may or not occur during school hours; these opportunities are also vitally important to the OVO program. Volunteering opportunities are not mandatory but include:
- Participating in the classroom. Recommended hours are 2 hours per week for one child enrolled; 1 ½ hours per child per week for 2 children enrolled, and 1 hour per child per week for 3 or more children enrolled. I would like to participate in the classroom ________ hours per week. I have ________ child/children attending Orangevale Open.
- Maintaining communications with my children’s teachers via conferences, class and school communication methods, student-teacher-parent contracts and projects, etc.
- Attending monthly meetings with each of my children’s teachers and parents in that class.
- Participating in or assisting with field trips and other activities such as Round Robin, class yearbook, plays, etc.
- Providing other support for school/classroom programs as designated by school and PTA/Steering guidelines.
I have read and understand this request as a parent while my child/children attend/s Orangevale Open K-8 School.

The Orangevale Open Program does not discriminate because the parent/guardian does not volunteer or donate. No student will be denied an education because he/she does not donate toward supplies, lab expenses, PE clothes, and the like. District Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 3260 state “A student enrolled in a school shall not be required to pay any fee, deposit, or other charge not specifically authorized by law,” and “The District shall charge only those fees specifically authorized by law. Schools and school employees will handle all requests for an inability to pay due to lack of funds in a confidential and respectful manner.” 12/28/12
