Language Arts

Our reading/language arts program integrates reading, writing, speaking, listening and thinking skills through the shared experience of literature. The District adopted, standards based Benchmark Advanced, is the core curriculum in kindergarten through fifth grade. In all grades individual progress is evaluated throughout the year in both formal and informal assessments. These assessments are used to monitor student progress, guide instruction and, when needed, adjust groupings. Keys to our success in reading include an early/late schedule which allows smaller reading groups and a commitment to maintain fluid achievement groups.
