Our school is privileged to be a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. IB is a philosophy and also an international organization of schools. At Thomas Kelly, we strive to accomplish the mission statement of the International Baccalaureate Organization:
"The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end, the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. "
At Thomas Kelly all students take part in this specialized learning. Through acknowledging and struggling to meet the diverse needs of the student- physical, social, intellectual, aesthetic, cultural- Primary Year Programme (PYP) schools ensure that the learning is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant. What adds significance to student learning in the PYP is its commitment to a transdisciplinary model (thematic units of inquiry), whereby themes of global significance that transcend the confines of the traditional subject areas frame the learning throughout the primary years. These themes promote and awareness of the human condition and an understanding that there is a commonality of human experience. Students explore this common ground through inquiry and collaboration, from the multiple perspectives of their individual experiences and backgrounds. This sharing of experience increases the student's awareness of, and sensitivity to, the experiences of others beyond the local or national community. It is central to the programme and a critical element in developing an international perspective, which must begin with each student's ability to consider and reflect upon the point of view of someone else in the same class.

Our 6 IB units are based on universal themes and incorporate all academic subjects. The entire written curriculum is known as the Programme of Inquiry.
