Welcome to Sylvan Middle School!  My name is Kirk Bebout (pronounced Beebo) and I'm happy to be serving as your Principal.  I started my tenure here in the Fall of 2017 after a few years as Principal of Lichen K-8. Prior to that I worked as a school administrator in the Cameron Park/ Shingle Springs area.  Early in my career I was a PE teacher at Will Rodgers and Carnegie Middle Schools.   I view my role as both leader and advocate for the students, families and staff here at Sylvan Middle School.  I value honesty, hard work and respect.  I want to assist all students to maximize their potential, find their passion and grow as human beings.  Equity and fairness are motivators behind every decision we make here at Sylvan.  Sylvan is a STEAM school which means we weave Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math into everything we do.  This happens in the obvious ways such as the classes the students take but also in more subtle ways such as special events and field trips.

I know that Sylvan is a point of pride in the greater Citrus Heights community with a roughly 100 year history!  I aim to continue and improve that legacy.  Our rebuilt campus with its curb appeal is a big part of this.  Athletics and extra curricular activties are another component and my team and I will work to improve our offerings in these areas.  My background as a wrestling coach has taught me the importance of having solid offerings available to students.  In the last couple of years we've revived the wrestling and Science Olympiad teams.  We've also added lots of new clubs such as RC Cars, Anime and Shoe club.  If I have to I will coach a team myself!

As they say "It takes a village" and my village is made up of a great support staff.  Our front office staff (Kathleen and Stacy) will greet you with a smile when you enter campus and they are great at directing you to where ever you need to go or solving problems themselves.  Vice Principals Katie Knifton and Jeff Jungk are amazing at what they do, please don't hesitate to contact them if needed.  Our counselors Marti Velasco and Ross Gallagher care deeply for your children and are ready and waiting to support those in need.  We also have social workers, community intervention specialists, media techs and a school nurse here to assist with what ever is needed.

Its going to be a great year!  Go Sylvan and "Full STEAM Ahead."
