• Welcome to Mr. Peets' Kindergarten

My name is Darin Peets, and I am your child’s Kindergarten teacher at Del Dayo Elementary School. During my twenty-six years in San Juan Unified, I have taught Kindergarten, fourth and fifth grade. I have also served as the SJUSD Coordinator of School Technology Support. I am pleased to be here at Del Dayo teaching your child.
Please join me in our classroom for a casual “Meet the Teacher” evening on Friday, August 7 from 4 – 5 pm in Room K-B. We will have a chance to talk and explore the classroom.  You will also be able to meet Robis, my Canine Companion for Independence service dog. My experience is that this informal get-together helps alleviate any anxieties that students might have about the first day of school.
I encourage you to bring your classroom supplies at this time. Your child will have the opportunity to sort them into boxes. Please remember that the supplies are for whole-class use and should not be labeled. All of the other classrooms at our school will be closed unless individual teachers have notified you.
I would also like to invite everyone to the Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, August 12 in the Multipurpose Room from 8:00 – 9:00 am.  The Volunteer Fair is a time for parents to sign up for important classroom jobs including helping in the classroom.  Please feel free to bring your child.
The first day of school is Thursday, August 13.  All kindergarten classes will start at 8:00 am and end at 12:00 pm. You are invited to join your child for the first hour and a half to participate in activities that will help familiarize both you and your child with important areas of the classroom.  One of our activities is making a snack so there is no need to send one on the first day.  While the children are at recess, we will have a brief parent-teacher meeting.  When the students return from recess, I will read a special story, and then students will say good-bye to you.
Please feel free to email me at dpeets@sanjuan.edu with questions or comments. I look forward to working with your family this year.
