Welcome to Physical Education at Charles Peck Elementary (2016-2017)

My name is Amanda Sundberg (Coach “S”) and I am the Physical Education Teacher at Charles Peck Elementary.  This is my third year at Peck and I am super excited about the year ahead!  As a professional, I understand that physical education is not a stand-alone subject, but rather a necessary element of the child’s entire curriculum. It is my aspiration as an instructor to help students be their best by providing an atmosphere that is safe, supports challenges, and invites everyone to participate.

Physical Education (PE) is critical to the development and maintenance of good health.  The goal of my program is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Each student who successfully completes my program will have learned the fundamental motor skills needed to enjoy an active lifestyle.  In addition, they will accomplish a healthy level of fitness and will learn to display positive behaviors toward themselves and others.

In order to have a successful and safe year in physical education, please make sure your student’s shoes cover the toes and give adequate support to the foot and ankle.  Dress shoes, cowboy boots, sandals, flip flops, clogs, Crocs, Heelys, or shoes that are left unlaced may not supply proper support to your child's feet and can increase the risk of injury.  Athletic shoes are recommended.  In addition, I recommend students wear comfortable clothing that allows them to run, jump, stretch, and tumble, since they will be learning new ways to keep their bodies moving.  Effort and achievement grades will be based on your child's ability to participate fully in PE.

I welcome doctor and/or parental notes that inform me when your child needs to sit out or take it easy during PE.  Again, safety is our number one priority; so do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
