Welcome! Read, Learn, Connect....
Our Awesome 2018/19 school year is about to begin!
Welcome to third grade in room 3! I hope you’ve enjoyed a wonderful summer with family and friends!
I am excited to introduce myself as Cowan’s new third grade teacher. I have been teaching in the San Juan District for fifteen years. I bring with me a wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise.
Ms. Jewell and myself have been working together to ensure a sensational and successful year for you! You’ll experience important learning and fun. Our reading units will cover government, communities, poetry, tornadoes, fables, myths, the Titanic, and so much more. Literary characters such as Ivan, Ruby, Flora, Ulysses, and Humphrey will become part of our world through our read-alouds. In mathematics, we’ll cover algebraic thinking, place value, multiplication, division, fractions, geometry, elapsed time, and graphing. In social studies we’ll study California regions, Native Americans, and California government. Science will focus on weather and climate, “simple machines,” and animal adaptations. We have so much to learn during the coming year, and I look forward to sharing it all with you!
Third grade is a transitional year. My job is to provide you with learning opportunities that will support your success in the intermediate grades as well as throughout your lifetime as a learner. It is important that you come to class on time each day prepared and ready to learn with the rest of our classroom team. For your convenience, I have included the updated supply list at the end of this letter, adding a composition book for each student. We shall make excellent use of these items throughout the year as we learn and grow. Another way to prepare for learning is to drink a full glass of water each morning to jump-start your brain! Studies show that drinking water first thing in the morning has a huge impact on the learning brain. Thank you for your support!
I look forward to meeting you at the Teacher Meet and Greet on Wednesday, August 15th, in the park gazebo area at 11:30 am.
The first day of school is on August 16th! We will have a wonderful learning year!
