    CAASPP Testing is Here!

    Dear Barrett Families:

This month students will begin taking the end-of year state CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) tests. These assessments are an important part of California’s plan for high-quality teaching and learning. These tests are one measurement used to assess your student’s progress. They provide important information to schools, teachers, and parents about how students are doing academically with California’s challenging learning goals.

As part of the CAASPP this year, students in grades 6 – 8 will take computer adaptive tests in English-language arts (ELA) and mathematics and 8th grade students will take the new science pilot test.

Barrett Middle School will test students from April 16 – May 25, with testing done in phases to accommodate our computer carts and wireless network.

As a parent, there are a number of ways that you can support your child before taking an end-of-year test.

     ·         Remind your child that the test is important and encourage him/her to do their best.  Your support is very important to your child!

     ·         Help your child gain a high level of comfort by taking a practice test prior to the testing.  These practice tests are an opportunity for students to experience items that are similar to what they will see on the actual test. When practicing, remind your child to listen to instructions and read directions for each question carefully.  Try out the test by going to www.sanjuan.edu/testing.

Following the spring 2018 testing, students will receive individual score reports. Student score reports will be sent home to parents and will include an overall score, a description of the student’s achievement level for English–language arts and mathematics, and other information.

If you would like more information about CAASPP, please visit the Students & Parents tab of the CDE CAASPP Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/.
